The first alarm fire of the year, classified as a 3-alarm, occurred on Monday night (January 8, 2018), as Chicago firefighters responded to a large mattress warehouse fire at 4041 S. Emerald Avenue. The structure, measuring 150 by 800 feet, was fully engulfed in flames, prompting a significant response from the Chicago Fire Department. Three tower ladders were deployed to deliver elevated master streams, while Squad 1A positioned itself strategically around the building to contain the spread of the fire.
