The relationship between the hardness of the O -ring and the maximum clearance and working pressure of the groove

Relationship between hardness of O -ring rubber material and working pressure

In the rubber material standard, the two properties of hardness and compression set are the most important. Selecting a rubber material with a smaller compression deformation is advantageous for the sealing performance, and hardness is also critical for the pressure resistance and the resistance to crushing of the O -shaped rubber sealing ring. According to domestic standards and practical experience, the maximum compression permanent deformation of rubber at the specified temperature does not exceed 50% . The hardness of rubber is closely related to the working pressure of the seal. The higher the pressure, the higher the hardness ; see Table 4-1-11.

Relationship between hardness of O-ring rubber material and working pressure

Note: The working pressure of rotary motion generally does not exceed 0.4 Mpa, and the hardness is selected at (70±5) degrees ; if it exceeds 0.4 Mpa, it is designed according to special sealing devices.

Groove finish requirements

The finish of the groove and the roughness of the contact surface of the groove have a great influence on the sealing effect and the durability.

Groove and compression

The compression rate of O -ring rubber seals for fixed seals is normally 15 to 25% ( this data empirical data ) . The compression ratio of the motion seal is 10 to 12% for reciprocating motion and 3 to 5 for rotary motion. % compression ratio, commonly used O -shaped rubber seal compression capacity and groove size see Table 4-1-9
