I just got some photos and even a short video from the scene of a fire that broke out last night at 3800 W. 38th Place. Tim Olk was kind enough to share these images with me, capturing different moments from the incident which involved both firefighting and hazardous materials response at level one. The intensity of the flames is clearly visible in the first few pictures, showing how the firefighters worked tirelessly under challenging conditions.
Here’s one particularly striking image where you can see the fire department commissioner, Jose Santiago, on-site. His presence signifies the gravity of the situation and the coordinated efforts being made to control the blaze. Another set of photos taken by Tim shows the aftermath, with firefighters still present but the main threat seemingly under control.
In addition to Tim's contributions, Larry Shapiro also sent over some compelling visuals. His series of shots highlights the use of master streams—those massive water cannons used to douse large fires. These photos really emphasize the scale and power required to manage such emergencies. There’s something about seeing those powerful streams of water arcing through the dark sky that underscores the raw force needed to combat urban fires like this one.
And if that wasn’t enough, Larry even recorded a brief video clip giving us an even more immersive look into what happened. Watching it feels like you’re right there experiencing the chaos and resilience firsthand. It’s humbling to see how quickly professionals can adapt and work together during critical situations like these.
Overall, it’s clear that this fire presented quite the challenge for everyone involved. From the initial callout to finally getting the situation under control, every step demanded precision and teamwork. Kudos go out to all those who helped keep people safe last night!
