With total sales reaching $54 billion last year, the company is considering expanding the division by adding more businesses in the future. Last year, Dow announced it would sell a 50% stake in its bulk chemicals business to Kuwait’s Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC), generating approximately $9.5 billion. The company plans to use these funds to acquire smaller firms, particularly in sectors like coatings, fuel additives, catalysts, and water treatment. Industry analysts have noted that potential targets include companies such as Albemarle, WR Grace, Valspar, and Nalco—each of which operates in niche but valuable areas of the chemical industry. This strategic shift reflects Dow’s broader effort to streamline operations, enhance profitability, and focus on high-growth segments. By divesting less strategic assets and investing in specialized businesses, the company aims to remain competitive in an evolving market. Analysts believe this approach could position Dow for long-term growth while maintaining flexibility in a dynamic global economy.
