In March, domestic heavy truck sales broke 60,000 manufacturers' inequality

Driven by the government's 4 trillion yuan investment in domestic demand, the Chinese heavy-duty truck market saw a strong recovery in March, surpassing the 60,000-unit mark for the first time in a single month. This marks a significant milestone in the industry’s rebound following a prolonged downturn. According to a report from the "CVW" journalist, China National Heavy Duty Truck (Group) maintained its top position in sales, with 19,500 units sold in March. FAW, Dongfeng, Shaanxi Auto, Futian Auman, and Bei Ben Heavy followed closely, each reporting sales figures of nearly 11,000, over 9,000, around 6,000, 5,100, and 3,800 units respectively. Hualing added another 1,500 units, bringing the total sales of these seven major manufacturers to over 55,000 units in March, pushing the overall heavy-duty truck market past the 60,000 threshold. The market is heating up, with all major players competing fiercely. While the recovery was expected, the uneven distribution of sales could widen the gap between companies. According to a representative from Shaanxi Automobile’s marketing department, the company's strong sales were directly tied to its traditional strengths in construction vehicles. In contrast, other manufacturers were only beginning to ramp up their EGR engine production, leading to a noticeable gap in sales performance compared to early movers. This trend is also confirmed by Sinotruk, where 70% to 80% of the group’s total sales come from construction vehicles. The company noted that sales in western regions have been particularly strong this year, driven by large-scale reconstruction efforts in Sichuan following the disaster. As a result, the sales team had already met its annual target ahead of schedule in March. While the construction vehicle segment continues to thrive, EGR models still dominate the market, helping Sinotruk maintain around a 33% market share in March. However, with the market showing signs of improvement, other manufacturers are eager to capitalize on the renewed interest after eight months of decline since July last year. Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company reported that the launch of the Cummins EGR engine significantly boosted sales of its heavy trucks. Meanwhile, Shaanxi Auto has focused more on logistics vehicles in recent years but has recently intensified its push into the dump truck market, with dump truck products now accounting for 70% of its heavy truck sales. March’s strong performance led to an increase in orders for April. However, as the construction vehicle season winds down after April, the question remains: will the logistics vehicle market—seen as a key growth driver—pick up in May and June? We’ll continue to monitor developments in the coming weeks. **Heavy Truck Manufacturers Sales Table (March vs. February):** - **Sinotruk**: ~19,500 vs. 9,783 - **FAW**: ~11,000 vs. 4,596 - **Dongfeng**: ~6,000 vs. 3,675 - **Liuqi**: ~3,000 vs. 2,394 - **Shaanxi Auto**: ~6,000 (Export + Civilian) vs. 4,490 - **Futian Auman**: ~5,100 (Excluding Exports) vs. 2,394 - **Bei Ben**: 3,800 vs. 1,159 - **Hualing**: 1,502 vs. 506 **Total of 7 Companies**: ~55,700 vs. 26,603
