Managing a golf course involves handling various liquid substances, including fertilizers and pesticides, which can present numerous challenges. Mike Higuera, Jr., manager of The Ranch Golf Course in San Jose, California, faced several issues while managing large quantities of liquid products: spills, worker injuries, leaks, and wasted materials.
Initially, the 55-gallon drums were stored horizontally in a special chemical storage shed with spigots installed on their fronts. Having tapped a few kegs during my younger days, I understood how this technology allowed the drums to be placed vertically and pressurized easily with shorter strokes. I included it in our budget and purchased my first one. For instance, there’s a remote tap attached to flexible tubing, enabling us to place the receptacle on the floor to fill it. This is particularly useful when dealing with our fertilizer, liquid iron, which weighs ten pounds per gallon. If an employee has to fill a five-gallon container, they’d be holding fifty pounds, which can be exhausting. Another enhancement was adding an adaptor with an air regulator on top. By connecting the pump directly to our compressor, we eliminated the need for manual pumping.â€
