**Site Bite: Sizing an Evaporator Coil at JFK Airport** Join James Filauro, our NY-area Account Manager, and me, Jack Kessler, as we take you behind the scenes of a recent coil replacement project at New York’s busiest airport—JFK. This was my first major on-site experience with Nationwide Coils, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable. As a new intern, stepping into a high-traffic environment like JFK was both exciting and intimidating. The control tower, where the evaporator coil needed replacement, was a unique location that required special access. It took hours just to get there—security checks, escorted tours through the airport, and even a ride across an active runway made this trip feel like a real adventure. Once inside the control tower, we had to navigate through ongoing construction and use a temporary elevator to reach the unit. Upon arrival, we discovered a challenge: the evaporator coil had already been removed, but the original Trane chilled water coil was still in place. Using its dimensions, James was able to determine the correct size for the new evaporator coil, and I took detailed notes throughout the process. The mechanical contractor on site emphasized the importance of precise connection locations, which we didn’t have initially. However, by climbing into the unit and measuring the existing holes on the side panel, we were able to replicate the exact layout. This attention to detail ensured the new coil would fit perfectly and function as intended. This experience taught me the value of hands-on learning and the importance of working with experienced professionals who can adapt and solve problems on the spot.
