Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

A fire broke out around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at a McDonald’s located at 1023 N. Lake St in Aurora. According to Aurora Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Rhodes, the fire started when some insulation caught fire while construction workers were welding near the ceiling inside the restaurant.

"They noticed the fire and tried to put it out, but it spread very quickly," Rhodes said. "They had no choice but to evacuate the building immediately. It was an extremely fast-burning fire."

Approximately 35 firefighters were deployed to control the blaze at the restaurant, which was in the middle of a major renovation project. The incident has raised concerns about safety during ongoing construction work in commercial spaces.
