The Chinese textile machinery industry is currently at a crucial turning point, shifting its focus from merely increasing production volume to enhancing product quality and technological innovation. This marks a transition from an extensive growth model to an intensive one. The concept of intensive production is broad in scientific terms but remains practical and actionable. It is reflected in the technical content, level of expertise, and profitability of products. To achieve this transformation, companies must first ensure that their product varieties are relatively concentrated, allowing for efficient mass production.
Realizing an intensive production model requires careful planning, organization, and execution. Many textile machinery companies in China have already started exploring and implementing these strategies, with several successful examples emerging. For instance, Zhejiang Sanyou Group produces 130 million yarn tubes annually, while Henan Second Spinning Machine manufactures millions of spindles each year. Zhenhai produces over 60,000 rapier heads annually, and some manufacturers reach hundreds or even thousands of units per year. These enterprises have not only achieved strong economic returns but also gained recognition within the industry. Their success highlights the importance of focusing on specialized production and concentrating on a limited range of high-quality products.
To implement specialized production effectively, four main organizational models can be considered. First, companies can focus on producing specific product series, forming a stable batch size to support intensive operations. Each company should have leading, branded, and competitive products backed by core technologies. Second, they can specialize in manufacturing parts and components, categorizing them to enable mass production. China's textile machinery industry has already laid the foundation for mass production of key components. Third, process specialization involves centralizing complex procedures such as casting, forging, heat treatment, and surface finishing to improve efficiency. Lastly, technology-based specialization focuses on areas like equipment maintenance, testing, and metrology, allowing for more professional and efficient operations.
Regardless of the chosen approach, the ultimate goal is to boost economic performance. Specialized production fosters more rational and detailed collaboration across society. The shift toward intensive production in China’s textile machinery industry is a promising direction that demands further research, refinement, and promotion. By embracing these changes, the sector can continue to grow sustainably and competitively in the global market.
