In an effort to make daily life more convenient, some residents on the first floor of residential buildings often leave their security doors open on one side. As a result, the security doors on the sides of the second to sixth floors have become little more than decorative elements. Recently, Mr. Zhong, a resident of the community, raised concerns about how some neighbors’ actions for convenience have created security risks for others.
The residential area where Mr. Zhong lives is located near Shangzhong West Road. He explained that the property management began installing security doors on the ground floor last year. To date, over 100 security doors have been installed in batches. Initially, this initiative was well-received by most residents as it aimed to improve safety. However, shortly after installation, many first-floor residents found the doors inconvenient. Since the anti-theft doors automatically close, they had to move their bicycles from under the stairs, which required extra effort and time. For those who are always rushing to work, such as "office workers," this became a real hassle.
To solve the problem, some residents started using bricks or heavy objects to prop open the security doors on their side, keeping them permanently open. While this makes access easier for the first-floor residents, it has led to complaints from those living upstairs. Mr. Zhong, who resides on the fifth floor, pointed out that the ground-floor security door is split into two sections—one for first-floor residents and another that connects directly to the staircase. The two sides are separated by the stair railings. However, when one side is left open, the other can be easily opened from the inside, effectively rendering the security system useless.
This issue is not unique to Mr. Zhong’s community. Many similar problems have been reported across different residential areas. The original intention behind installing security doors was to enhance the overall safety of the neighborhood. It's important for all residents to consider the broader impact of their actions. While it's understandable to seek convenience, neglecting the shared security of the community is not acceptable. Everyone should take responsibility and ensure that the security doors function as intended, contributing to a safer living environment for all.
