Antwerp, April 13, 2011 - Atlas Copco has announced that all its oil-free compressors are in compliance with the latest ISO 8573-1 standard and are oil-grade 0 grade products. Atlas Copco is the first compressor manufacturer to receive this certificate, and its oil-free air technology meets the “0” standard for oil content under the latest international standards.
Certified to the latest certification standards, all Atlas Copco oil-free technology meets the latest standards, including its centrifugal, rotary, spiral, piston, water jet screw, oil-free screw, Four-stage piston/screw integrated type, and its P series rental mobile compressor. These compressors provide 100% oil-free compressed air to textile, food and beverage, mining, offshore platforms and electronics (including semiconductor and clean room) industries, medical, chemical and cosmetic manufacturers, automotive paints, municipal water treatment and hospitals.
The first edition of the ISO 8573-1 standard was enacted in 1991, and this is only the first step in recognizing the importance of air quality and classifying the output air based on three pollutants (ie oil, water and dust). The gradual improvement of standards reflects the growing demand for good air quality in processing and sensitive end products such as food and medical. In 2001, the second edition of the ISO 8573-1 standard was issued, which added a Class 0 standard for oil content. Atlas Copco's Z-Series oil-free screw compressors received a Level 0 certificate in 2006 and were the first manufacturers to obtain German TÃœV certification. Atlas Copco's other oil-free technology (the centrifugal, rotary, spiral, piston and water jet screws are machines) met this standard in 2007, confirming the company's pressure on the 300 gauge 40 leading position in absolute pressure. In 2010, the second edition of ISO 8573-1 (2001) was revised to reflect changes in dust content and a new set of standards (ie ISO-8573-1 3rd edition (2010)).
Chris Lybaert, President of Atlas Copco Oil-free Air Division, said: "The certification according to the latest 2010 standards proves our commitment to oil-free technology and the assurance of processing, human and environmental safety."
TÃœV (German Technical Supervision Association) has issued a certificate based on the most stringent measurement and test methods for the current oil content of various Atlas Copco compressors, confirming that no oil components were found.
L'Oreal China Suzhou is one of Atlas Copco's customers. The plant uses compressed air in pneumatic equipment and dry processing after sterilization. Air quality is critical to high quality cosmetics. Even small amounts of oil can alter or contaminate the entire batch of products and pose a health risk to consumers. Therefore, L'Oréal chose the Z series 0 compressor in 1999.
Mr. Huang (ETNSE Manager of L'Oreal Suzhou Plant) said: “We chose Atlas Copco because its Class 0 Z series meets our higher manufacturing standards and is consistent with our ISO 14001 and OHSAS18000 certifications. In addition, our company is also able to reduce the energy consumption of the compressor room by 20%.” The plant won the Jiangsu Province Environmental Protection Award-EFE (Environmental Enterprise) Award in 2008.
Atlas Copco, the industry leader in oil-free technology, is working hard to meet the highest customer requirements for compressed air quality. This recertification confirms that Atlas Copco is constantly striving to ensure the safety of its customers through 100% certified oil-free air.
