Friday afternoon brought an unexpected fire emergency to Englewood. At 4:31 PM, the fire alarm office received a call about a working fire at 1650 W. 75th Place. Just three minutes later, Truck 50 confirmed that it was indeed a serious fire in a one-story commercial building measuring 50 by 100 feet. The crew quickly identified a potential truss roof and immediately requested additional support from the Still & Box unit. Battalion 20 swiftly took charge, organizing a defensive strategy. Engine 129 was deployed to Sector 1 while Tower Ladder 39 set up operations in an adjacent lot to the east. Meanwhile, Squad 5’s snorkel was positioned on the parkway to the east of the building.
By 4:56 PM, a second-alarm response—2-2-5—was initiated. Tower Ladder 34 was stationed to the west of the fire building at the end of Paulina Street. I began documenting this incident with my camera shortly after the fire had been burning for nearly an hour. The intense efforts continued until the second-alarm line was finally knocked down at 6:21 PM. The firefighters remained on-site, meticulously extinguishing any remaining hotspots, only wrapping up their work just before 8:00 PM.
The images below capture some of the critical moments of this firefighting operation. These photos were taken by Erik Haak, who generously shared them with me. Each image reflects the dedication and skill of the firefighters involved in containing and ultimately extinguishing the blaze.

It's always humbling to witness the hard work of our local firefighters, especially during challenging situations like this one. Their quick response and coordinated efforts undoubtedly prevented further damage to the surrounding area.
