San Francisco, May 8, 2023 /PRNewswire/ – Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has introduced the first set of features for Autodesk Forma, an industry-specific cloud platform designed to streamline workflows across teams involved in designing, building, and operating the built environment. The initial capabilities focus on early-stage planning and design, offering automation and AI-driven insights that simplify the exploration of design concepts, reduce repetitive tasks, and help evaluate environmental conditions around a building site, allowing architects to concentrate on creative solutions.
This launch marks the beginning of what will be an ongoing evolution of the architecture, engineering, construction, and operations industry cloud, with new features and enhancements continuously added to Forma.
“Forma empowers architecture professionals to work iteratively rather than sequentially between planning and detailed design, significantly boosting their productivity,†said Amy Bunszel, Executive Vice President of Architecture, Engineering and Construction Design Solutions at Autodesk. “From quickly assessing multiple factors like sun, wind, noise, and energy use to offloading computational tasks to the cloud and integrating with Revit, Forma delivers real value for our customers.â€
Forma allows users to rapidly assess dozens of design options and refine them based on desired qualities. It offers quick project setup, advanced capabilities without requiring deep technical knowledge, and tools to effectively communicate the design vision to stakeholders, ensuring buy-in and support throughout the process.
These benefits enable architecture firms to better meet client demands, produce higher-quality deliverables, win more bids, and drive business growth.

Included in Autodesk Forma’s initial capabilities are:
- **Contextual Modeling**: Simplifies starting a new BIM project by enabling users to create a 3D model of the entire project area within minutes, using either their own data or purchased datasets, all within Forma.
- **Conceptual Design Capabilities**: Offers freeform 3D design tools for creative expression and rapid development of complex designs.
- **Automation**: Speeds up the early exploration of design concepts using parametric tools, allowing users to generate multiple variations and save time for creative work.
- **Machine Learning**: Provides real-time analysis of key environmental factors such as sunlight, daylight, wind, and microclimate, without requiring specialized technical skills. This enables environmental assessments from the very beginning of the design process.
- **Revit Add-in**: Allows seamless file-less synchronization between Forma and Revit, enabling users to detail their designs in Revit and bring them back to Forma for further analysis.
CUBE 3, an architecture, interiors, and planning firm, is transitioning its workflow to digital, cloud-based solutions to future-proof its business. “We pride ourselves on creative, intelligent designs that consider our clients’ needs, budgets, and the environment,†said Tony Fiorillo, Chief Information Officer at CUBE 3. “When evaluating software solutions, we look for ways to improve communication with our clients, increase speed to market, allow our team to work flexibly in a hybrid environment, and adapt quickly to change. Solutions like Autodesk Construction Cloud and Forma are a huge value-add—giving us unprecedented access to data, which helps us work smarter and go where our clients need us.â€
With Forma, Autodesk now offers a full end-to-end solution for building design—from early-stage planning through to detailed design in Revit, supported by its extensive ecosystem of connected products, including Autodesk Construction Cloud. For existing subscribers, Forma is now included in the Autodesk AEC Collection.
“This is just the beginning,†said Bunszel. “I’m excited for the future as we continue to build out Forma, reimagining BIM to focus on achieving outcomes instead of modeling, and connecting data, teams, and workflows across the entire project lifecycle.â€
