SAN FRANCISCO, April 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — A new report from Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) highlights the growing confidence and optimism within industries responsible for creating places, objects, and experiences. The second annual State of Design & Make survey, which polled over 5,400 global business leaders, futurists, and industry experts, reveals that businesses are increasingly viewing digitization as a cornerstone of resilience and sustainability.
This year’s findings indicate a marked improvement in corporate confidence compared to last year. A significant 73% of companies now feel prepared to face unforeseen economic or geopolitical disruptions, marking a 14-point jump from 2023. What’s even more striking is the rising trust in artificial intelligence (AI), with 76% of professionals expressing faith in its capabilities to drive industry innovation and efficiency.
Leaders across sectors are leveraging AI not just as a futuristic concept but as a practical tool that can enhance productivity and promote sustainability—a critical priority for both businesses and the planet. As the report suggests, embracing AI is no longer optional—it's essential for staying competitive. Over three-quarters of companies are either already incorporating AI into their workflows or are on track to do so soon.
Another notable trend highlighted in the report is the increasing emphasis on upskilling. With talent shortages becoming a major hurdle for growth, companies are prioritizing continuous learning initiatives to bridge the gap between existing employee skill sets and the demands of emerging technologies like AI. Digital maturity is proving to be a key differentiator in attracting top talent, with 71% of respondents ranking it as a critical factor in hiring decisions.
Sustainability remains a focal point, with nearly all companies surveyed (97%) taking steps to improve their environmental impact. There’s a clear consensus among industry professionals that sustainable practices are beneficial both in the short and long term, with 69% agreeing that it positively influences immediate business success—a 25% increase from last year’s figures.
Looking ahead, the report predicts continued investment in AI and emerging technologies, with 77% of respondents planning to allocate more resources to these areas over the next few years. Generative AI, in particular, is expected to play a pivotal role in decision-making processes, helping to optimize designs for everything from physical products to digital assets.
Despite the positive outlook, challenges persist. Access to skilled labor continues to pose a challenge for many firms, with 43% of industry professionals citing talent availability as a growth barrier. However, the overall sentiment reflects an industry poised for transformation, driven by technological advancements and a shared commitment to sustainable progress.
