I just came across another batch of awesome images from Martin Nowak featuring some classic trucks from Chicago Fire Department's Squad546 collection. I'm really grateful to Squad546 for letting me share these photos with all of you. They really bring back memories of how firefighting equipment has evolved over the years.
Take a look at this beauty, the former Tower Ladder 10 from 1985, built by Federal-E-One and sporting a impressive 95-foot ladder. It’s incredible to see how these vehicles were designed to handle the toughest situations. Here's another gem, the former Truck 4 from 1970, a Seagrave model that was refurbished back in 1991. You can almost feel the history in its design when it’s out responding to an emergency call.
Next up is the iconic Truck 18 from 1995, also a Seagrave with a 100-foot ladder. These trucks were built to last and they sure did their job well. Then there’s the former Truck 20, a 1969 Seagrave that originally had a booster pump and hose line but later had them removed. It’s fascinating to see how modifications like these were made to adapt to changing needs.
The former Truck 35 from 1967, which used to be Truck 9, is another standout piece. It’s a collaboration between FWD and Seagrave, showcasing the best of both worlds in terms of engineering and craftsmanship. Lastly, check out the former Truck 52’s 1975 Seagrave 100-footer from the early '80s. It’s a perfect example of how reliable these vehicles were and how they played a crucial role in firefighting operations.
These photos truly capture the essence of firefighting history and the dedication of those who’ve served. Each truck tells its own story, and it’s amazing to see how far we've come since these vehicles first hit the streets. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I do!
