In our latest installment (the ninth) of this series highlighting "The Color of Fire Trucks," we're diving into MABAS Division 7 once again. This division covers Kankakee County and parts of Iroquois County. As always, Bill Friedrich brings us some fascinating insights. First up, we have the Essex Fire Protection District, which operated a unique white vehicle back in 1974. Their Squad 1974 was a modified 1974 Dodge Power Wagon. This was the sole white unit in their fleet, making it stand out among the predominantly red apparatus. Moving to Kankakee City, we find two lime-green Mack trucks with white roofs. One of these was Ladder 6, a 1983 Mack CF600 equipped with a 100-foot Pirsch aerial ladder, a 1,250-gallon-per-minute (GPM) pump, and 200 gallons of onboard water. Unfortunately, these distinctive rigs are no longer part of the city's current fleet. The Kankakee Township Fire Department also embraced lime green in its early days. For instance, they had a 1975 International Harvester (IHC) Cargostar 1910 with an Alexis body, a 1,000-GPM pump, and 500 gallons of water. Known as Engine 84, it was eventually replaced by newer models painted in the standard red color scheme. Pembroke Fire Protection District also dabbled in lime green during its earlier years. Their 1972 International Harvester Loadstar 1800, built by Central, featured a 500-GPM pump and 500 gallons of water. Like many departments, Pembroke has since transitioned to a uniform red color for all its equipment. Over in Otto Township, Engine 38 from 1986 was an IHC S1900/Luverne combination with a 750-GPM pump and 500 gallons of water. Although Otto Township initially adopted lime green, they eventually switched to the more traditional red hue across their entire fleet. The Papineau Fire Protection District boasts a striking yellow engine, Engine 1533. This 1981 Pierce Arrow model, featuring a 1,250-GPM pump and 750 gallons of water, was acquired last year from the Glenside Fire Protection District in MABAS Division 12. Bourbonnais Fire Protection District had a mix of yellow and red equipment. Their Engine 63 from 1976, built by Howe on a Hendrickson 1871 chassis, included an impressive 1,000-GPM pump and 800 gallons of water. However, most of their apparatus remains red. In Grant Park, Engine 112 stood out as the lone lime-green rig in their fleet. This 1963 International Harvester/Central model came equipped with 1,000 gallons of water and a 1,000-GPM pump. All other vehicles in the district have consistently been painted red. Chebanse Township Fire Protection District, located in Clifton, had two white vehicles early on, but the majority of their fleet has since transitioned to red. Salina Township Fire Protection District also maintained a white tanker, Tanker 164, which was constructed on a 1985 GMC F-7000 chassis by Midstate Tank. Carrying 2,000 gallons of water without a pump, it remains a standout piece in their collection. Additionally, Salina Township once possessed a white brush truck, though today everything except this tanker is red. Lastly, the St. Anne Fire Department operated a blue rescue truck, Rescue 10, which was later repainted white and red. Throughout its history, the department has kept its primary fleet in red. Each department’s choice of colors reflects not only practical considerations but also evolving trends and community preferences. These vehicles serve as tangible reminders of how firefighting has evolved over the decades while maintaining its core mission of protecting lives and property.

HONDA Connecting Rod

The connecting rod is the key component connecting the piston and the crankshaft in an internal combustion engine. It converts the linear motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the crankshaft, thereby transferring power from the piston to the crankshaft.

Honda's connecting rods are designed to withstand the high stresses and forces generated within the engine during combustion. They are carefully engineered to provide optimum performance, efficiency and reliability. The design and materials used in Honda's connecting rods are continuously improved to improve engine performance, reduce friction and increase fuel efficiency.
