It’s been a busy day here in Sandwich. I just got back from capturing some intense scenes of a major garage fire on East Sandwich Road. The whole thing kicked off around midday, and it was quite the spectacle. I’ve been snapping photos the entire time, and they’re already getting some attention online.
The address is 4303 E. Sandwich Rd., and it was a general alarm situation. From what I saw, the fire spread pretty quickly through the large structure. It was a really dramatic event to witness. There were multiple fire trucks on the scene, including a couple of those massive Pierce engines. They were working hard to bring the flames under control.
One of the most striking moments for me was seeing one of the engines drafting water from a nearby pond. That always adds an extra layer of complexity to firefighting efforts. The firefighters were clearly exhausted but focused, and it was inspiring to see how they worked together as a team. Some of them even took a moment to rest in the rehab area once things started winding down.
I managed to capture several shots that really tell the story of the incident. One image shows the massive garage that was severely damaged by the fire—its charred remains standing as a stark reminder of the power of the blaze. Another shot highlights the impressive HME tower ladder in action, reaching high into the sky to help douse the flames. There are also some great images of the fire department’s ambulance on standby, ready to assist if needed.
Even after the fire was mostly under control, there was still plenty of activity. The firefighters in their gear looked worn out but determined. I snapped a few candid shots of them catching their breath and hydrating—it’s not easy work they do. And of course, no fire scene would be complete without the classic shot of fire trucks lined up, their lights flashing against the backdrop of smoke and ash.
This kind of event really puts into perspective the dedication and skill required of our local firefighters. It’s humbling to see them in action.
