The fire at 8032 South Hermitage that was initially reported as a 2-11 alarm has now turned fatal. A 45-year-old woman was pulled from the burning home by Chicago Fire Department (CFD) crews shortly after they arrived on scene. Despite immediate medical attention, she suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation and was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. No working smoke alarms were found at the residence.

The fire was reported around 9:56 a.m., and CFD units arrived within four minutes. Upon reaching the scene, firefighters were told by neighbors that someone was still inside the house. They immediately proceeded to the location and discovered a female with critical injuries who was unresponsive. Emergency responders transported her via ambulance to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
