The fire at 8032 South Hermitage, initially reported as a 2-11 alarm, has now turned fatal. A 45-year-old woman was pulled from the flames by Chicago Fire Department (CFD) crews just after they arrived on scene. However, she had already suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. No working smoke detectors were found at the residence.

The fire was first reported at 9:56 AM. CFD units arrived within four minutes and quickly moved to 8032 South Hermitage. Neighbors had alerted emergency services that someone was still inside the home. Upon arrival, firefighters located a female with critical injuries who was unresponsive. The victim was found in the rear bedroom, where the fire was most intense.
