From the Limestone Township Fire Protection District Facebook page:
PRESS RELEASE
To our neighbors and community members,
As many of you may already know, the Limestone Township Fire Protection District has been facing significant challenges in recent years. Due to ongoing financial difficulties, we've struggled to maintain a sufficient number of qualified personnel. Over the past few years, we've tried various measures to improve our situation—selling off equipment like a brush truck, a utility vehicle, and a fire engine; cutting tuition reimbursement for essential training; reducing minimum staffing from three to two members; suspending all salary increases; and even holding a referendum in March that didn’t pass.
Unfortunately, these efforts haven’t been enough. As a result, we are now forced to make some very difficult decisions. If the upcoming referendum on November 3rd fails, we will be closing our only fire station at 4948 W. Rt. 17 on weekends starting November 7th. This means no staff will be available on Saturdays and Sundays. While this allows us to keep weekday operations running with our current staffing levels, more days could be closed in the future due to increasing financial pressures from state mandates and new wage laws.
We understand this change will significantly impact emergency response times on weekends. Our goal is to respond as quickly as possible, especially if volunteers are available. However, if there aren’t enough volunteers, residents may have to wait for help from neighboring departments.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Chief Whalen or Deputy Chief Bruno at (815) 932-4664.

1. Gaskets: Engine gaskets are used to establish a seal between two engine components to prevent oil or coolant leakage. Gaskets are usually made of materials such as rubber, cork or metal.
2. Seals: Engine seals are similar to gaskets, but they are used to form a seal between moving engine parts such as the Crankshaft and camshaft. Seals are usually made of materials such as rubber or silicone.
3. Piston: The piston is the part that moves up and down in the engine cylinder, converting the energy of the fuel into mechanical energy. They are usually made of aluminum or cast iron.
4. Piston Ring: The piston ring is used to seal the gap between the piston and the cylinder wall to prevent the oil from entering the combustion chamber and reducing the engine efficiency. Rings are usually made of steel or cast iron.
5. Bearings: Engine bearings are used to support the rotating crankshaft and connecting rod, reducing friction and wear. Bearings are usually made of materials such as steel or bronze.
Overall, an engine repair kit is a comprehensive set of components that are essential to servicing or rebuilding an engine. By replacing worn or damaged parts with new parts, engine repair kits can help improve engine performance, reduce emissions, and extend engine life.
