In recent years, China's construction machinery manufacturers have benefited from the booming construction equipment market, but they also face challenges due to the limitations of their component suppliers. Deutz FAW (Dalian) Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. (known as Dachai) was established with the aim of addressing these issues through high-quality products and continuous innovation. As one of the three core technology strategies of FAW Group, the introduction of Germany’s Deutz engine technology began in 2003 when FAW Jiefang Automobile Co., Ltd. set up the Dachai branch. The goal was to build a world-class domestic power R&D and manufacturing base. This initiative marked the beginning of Dachai's journey into the construction machinery sector. More than a century ago, Deutz started supporting construction equipment, and over two decades ago, it used construction machinery as a key entry point to enter the Chinese market. To meet local demand, Dachai introduced nine models of Deutz construction machinery diesel engines, ranging from 90 to 280 horsepower, meeting TIRE2 and TIRE3 emission standards. These engines are produced in parallel with the German Deutz company and have been tested by millions of users. In addition, Dachai has adopted full German Deutz production technology, including five key production lines for cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, camshafts, inspection, and assembly. Building on the existing ISO/TS16949 quality management system, Dachai integrated Deutz AG’s proven quality control methods and standards. It also introduced advanced tools such as Siemens’ tool monitoring systems, Marposs’ online inspection technology, and ABB’s anti-error solutions, ensuring a rigorous and comprehensive quality control process. Since its inception, Dachai has emphasized the slogan “World Class Service” to create “World Class Power.” In 2000, it pioneered the “24 Hours 800 Free Service” and “Hotline” services, which quickly gained recognition. Over just a few years, Dachai’s service evolved from “home service” to “brand service,” and finally to “world-class service,” creating the well-known “36024 Everywhere, No Time is Not a Full-Time Service” brand. This exceptional service has become a key factor in Dachai's success in the domestic construction machinery market. Major companies like Xugong Group, Sany Heavy Industry, Zoomlion, and Zhanyang Power have all chosen Dachai products. For example, in August 2007, Sany tested Dachai engines on mid-to-low-end products, and after just a few months, they moved to test them on leading products. Now, bulk orders have begun. Similarly, Zoomlion launched DEUTZ FAW engines on its flagship concrete pump in February, started bulk orders in April, and included them in this year’s procurement plan. Zhanyang Power conducted an inspection before Dachai was officially listed, and related products are now in the trial design phase, expected to be tested in February. Xugong Group also included Dachai engines in its new product development project in 2008, with prototype tests planned for March. Beyond the domestic market, Dachai has successfully expanded internationally. For instance, 80% of Anhui Heli’s 3-ton forklifts are equipped with Dachai CA498 engines, with some units exported as complete machines. Hangzhou Yougao’s export products, which make up 80–90% of its shipments, are also powered by CA498 engines. Additionally, Dachai is collaborating with Foton Lovol Heavy Industries on Asia’s largest 265-horsepower tractor project, currently under development.
